    What is SeedBook?

SeedBook is a sketchbook that makes drawing fun. We wanted to make a digital sketchbook that used the powerful multi-touch interface of iPad while still keeping the extras to a minimum. Our goal was to keep as little as possible between the ideas you came up with and what you created.

Ok so how does it work?

Just touch the page and start drawing! Right away you’ll see that the lines are thicker the slower you go. There’s no slider anywhere for the pencil size or shapes, just speed up or slow down to make thinner or thicker lines – it feels totally natural. You’ll also notice that when you draw close to another line it’ll start shading between them. This is our amazing shading option that let’s you fill and shade your drawings easier than you ever have before. It works the same way with speed – just slow down and the shading will get darker and denser. Turn the smart shading off to make your edge lines and then turn it back on to shade things while keeping within the lines. It’s easy, fast, and just plain fun to use!

    What else is there?

We’ve taken what we feel are the bare essentials to help you, and we’ve polished them up. Here’s what we’ve done!

    Undo

We save the history of up to 4 steps so you can “undo” those bigger errors, and if you want to “undo” your “undo”, just tap and hold it to step forward again. But why not more? Why can’t I undo the whole thing? If you’re going to start something new we think you should just flip the page and keep moving forward. We like to think of better ideas coming out of continuous iterations instead of trying to polish the first thing you put down. Fresh pages are good for you, plus it’s informative to be able to flip through iterations of old ideas and how they evolved.

    Zoom

Another great advantage over a normal sketchbook is using pinch-to-zoom to add those extra details to your sketches. It works exactly as you’d think, just get in there and do it! Scrollbars pop-in to give you some context of how far in your are and where you are in your page so you don’t lose your sense of scale.

    Grid

Along with the zoom function we also have a great grid you can overlay onto your page anytime to help you straighten things out, or to help your sense of scale. It’s also easy to manipulate and resize, just tap the button to adjust your grid on the toolbar and you can drag and pinch to pan and scale it however you want! Just tap the adjustment button again when you’re done and keep working with your adjusted grid!

    Exporting

And finally there’s the easy export functionality. We’ve always ended up scanning or even taking photos of our sketches that we wanted to move onto our computers, but it’s a whole lot easier with SeedBook. Just hit the share button and you can email the page off to yourself for whatever purpose you want. You can choose whether you want to keep the paper texture of SeedBook for that authentic sketchbook look, or use a plain white or transparent background to cleanly import your pages to other applications for further work.

Sounds good!  Anything else I should know?

Multiple books! Separate out your projects or thoughts into different sketchbooks to help organize ideas. You can also customize the covers of these books by drawing onto the first page of each book – anything drawn in the outlined space of the first page will appear on the cover strap of each book so you can put some life into them! So there you have it! We’ll be releasing SeedBook near the beginning of June to every iTunes App Store around the world for just $4.99 USD/CAD. We’ll also be putting out a Lite version with a single page so you can experience the tools without any commitment. Thanks, and we hope you love using SeedBook as much as we do!
